"Love is not a feeling, but a reflection, a reaction, a response, to the love that God has given to us. God commanded us to love in deed, from the heart, and with selflessness. I have chosen to love because he loved me first."

A REFLECTION of CHARACTER in a TIME of DECISION-MAKING

As women in our society we have become accustomed to making our own decisions regarding family, friendships, careers, health and spiritual matters.  How we go about making these decisions can at times lead to added emotional and physical stress.  Imagine how that stress can be lowered by walking in confidence, knowing that the Holy Spirit can guide/lead you to smart decision making.   When we make a commitment to submit to God’s will, it can be one of the most difficult steps to take because we are used to doing everything on our own.   However, that important decision will be life-altering and you will never see decision-making the same way.

In Galatians 5:22-23 the author Paul writes describing the “Fruit of the Spirit”.  As we walk in the spirit it is an opportunity to build a relationship with God and others, and leads you to have an inner strength.  The reflection of God’s character in your life can truly be manifested by the Holy Spirit and the attributes thereof.  Love, Peace, and Joy develops out of a connection with God.  We are challenged to reflect Longsuffering (patience), Kindness, and Goodness when building relationships with others.  As we mature spiritually and become closer to God, we will discover an inner strength built upon Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.   It starts and ends with God!  What exciting news!

So how CAN we reflect God’s character in our daily and life changing decisions?  We will discuss each fruit of the spirit listed in Galatians during the next several weeks and gain a clearer understanding of how these attributes can be used to develop mature decision-making.  We will learn together, sharing ideas and questions.

  1. I am dropping this comment to first congratulate, and lift you up for adhering to what God has laid on your heart. Many of us ignore his will to make way for that of our own, which directly relates to your latest topic.

As I grow stronger in my faith, I have learned first hand what the Apostle Paul means. If you keep God first, in everything you do, and live your life as a Christ would, then the results of your decisions are blessed, as the fruit of the tither is blessed. To me, the daily decision is both simple and challenging at times. It challenges me in my reactions to 'bad' drivers, annoying co-workers, and other seemingly small things that may not go my way. When I feel myself getting impatient or annoyed, I stop and think, God is slowing me down for a reason, there may be an accident ahead, or I am to learn something from this person I would otherwise never converse with, I maybe entertaining an angel.
